The Discoveries Centre for Regenerative and Precision Medicine is a new research centre set up following a Teaming topic funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020. These actions envision bringing together high performing and low performing countries for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence. In the particular case of Discoveries Centre, the partners are the Universities of Minho, Porto, Aveiro, Nova de Lisboa, and the University College London (UCL).
The Discoveries Centre is multipolar, with the physical facilities distributed by the various partners and headquartered in I3Bs – University of Minho, with the Mission of:
- Anchoring research activities of the best research groups in Portugal;
- Promoting excellence, advanced training, increasing performance, translational research outputs and commercialization strategies;
- Generate an important economic impact;
- Impacting the quality of life of an ageing European population affected by neurodegenerative, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases.
In addition to the excellent research, Discoveries Centre is focused on promoting the translation of these research’s results into clinical practice and into the marketplace. To this end, the Centre will have a transversal unit that will serve as an interface with industry and that will promote the transfer of technologies to the market. This unit will provide services to third parties regarding translational, commercial and IPR aspects.
